Hi Beauties,
Few days back I had posted this eye makeup look on my Instagram and also created a poll where many people voted for a step by step tutorial on this.
You can follow me on my Instagram as I am usually more active there.
So here I go…
A Classic Black Smokey eye is my all time favourite. It is timelessly sexy. It is tricky to create and not knowing the right techniques while applying can end in a disaster. Trust me, I have had my fair share of mistakes. Over a period of time i have learned from my mistakes and today I can finally tell you how to avoid those mistakes and create this gorgeous eye makeup.
Products You will need:
- Concealer and compact/ loose powder
- Creamy kajal or a gel eyeliner
- Any matte black eyeshadow
- A warm toned brown eyeshadow
- A matte cream or bone colour eyeshadow
- Smudging brush
- A fluffy blending brush
- Black eyeliner
- Mascara
Step 1: Apply a concealer all over your eyelid and blend it with the help of your fingers or a brush. Now set this concealer using a powder. It can be either compact powder or loose powder.
I have used L.A. Girl Pro conceal HD in the shade ‘Medium beige’ and to set it ‘Maybelline New York White Superfresh Compact ‘ in the shade ‘Shell’.
Step 2: Now take a creamy black kajal or a gel eyeliner and apply it all over your eyelid in a thin layer. Make sure to keep it below your crease. This will serve as a base for our eyeshadow. By doing this step you would get more intense black color.
Crease is the area along socketbone of your eye which is right above the eyeball.
I have used ‘Blue Heaven Artisto Kajal’ .
Step 3: Now take a smudging brush and diffuse the edges of this black gel eyeliner that you have applied on your eyelids.
Step 4: Take a matte black eyeshadow and place it on the top of the gel eyeliner. Again ensure that you keep it below the crease. You can either use your fingers for this or a flat eyeshadow brush.
I have used Colorpop Supershock Shadow in the shade ‘Roulette’.
Step 5: Now take a warm toned brown eyeshadow (brown with red undertones) on a fluffy blending brush and apply it in your crease. Keep building the color till you get the intensity that you want.
I have used the contour shade from my BH Cosmetics Sculpt and Contour Palette.
Step 6: Make sure there is no harsh line between the black and brown eyeshadow. You can add more black eyeshadow if you feel that the intensity is lost due to blending.
Step 7: Apply same black eyeshadow very close to your lower lash line and then with the help of brown eyeshadow blend the edges of the black.
Step 8: Apply Kajal to both your upper and bottom waterline.
I have used Nykaa EyemBLACK Kajal.
Step 9: Draw a thick winged liner. You can use whichever eyeliner you prefer.
I have used Coloressence Supreme Eyeliner in Black.
Step 10: Now apply a thick coat of Mascara. You may opt for false eyelashes too.
I have used the Maybelline New York Falsies Push up Drama Mascara.
Step 11: Place a shimmery gold eyeshadow in the inner corner of your eyes.
I have used Colourpop Supershock Shadow in the shade ‘Get Lucky’.
Step 12: Highlight your brow bone using the matte cream/bone colour eyeshadow.
Additional Tips:
- Blending is the key. Make sure there are no harsh edges.
- Groom, shape and fill your eyebrows as an undone eyebrow can ruin the whole look.
- Highlight the under eye area using a concealer as dark smokey eyes can look really dull if that area isn’t highlighted.
I hope this tutorial helped you. If you have any questions please leave them in the comments below.
